American Medical News    Deputy Art Director, October 1999 to present      Assistant Art Director, January 1998 to September 1999   American Medical News is a weekly tabloid magazine for physicians with a national circulation of over 200,000. I handle the Art Director’s duties when he is out of the office and oversee all photo assigning and editing. I am also responsible for identifying new talent and maintaining relationships with the department’s large national network of freelance illustrators and photographers. My other duties include art direction, photo editing, page design and creation of charts and graphics for the print and online editions. Albuquerque Journal    Assistant Design Director, January 1995 to December 1997      Features Designer, June 1994 to January 1995   The Albuquerque Journal is New Mexico’s largest daily newspaper. As the Assistant Design Director, I assisted in the management of the paper’s 13-person design desk. My management duties included hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating employees. Additionally, I played a dominant role in prototyping and implementing a paper-wide redesign recognized by the Society for News Design. My design and art direction responsibilities at the Journal included Sunday A1 news covers, daily features pages, the monthly women’s magazine (SAGE), special projects and reprints. Albuquerque Tribune    Various design positions, January 1991 to June 1994   The Albuquerque Tribune is one of the few remaining daily evening newspapers in the country. The paper, despite its small circulation numbers, is known for good writing, photography, and design. I worked my way up the ranks from intern to staff designer. My responsibilities included design of news covers and sports, as well as feature design and art direction of the entertainment guide (Wildlife) and television guide.
